Driven by the competition for talent, the City of Rancho Mirage offers a generous employment package to help employees enjoy the things that are important at home and at work. It’s called Total Rewards. Total Rewards represents an employee’s employment deal with the City. It’s the various components that make up an employment package extending beyond compensation to include a “big picture” view of everything the City offers as an employer.

Benefit Summary

Maintaining a skilled workforce permits the City to deliver reliable services, world-renowned library programs, beautiful parks, and well-maintained roads. The City of Rancho Mirage competes with other municipalities for quality candidates, therefore offers a generous benefit program to attract top talent and to retain experienced, knowledgeable employees. Below are a few highlights of that program.

Full Time Employee Benefits

Medical, Dental and Vision coverage is provided by the City of Rancho Mirage for employees and their eligible dependents.

In addition, the City provides health reimbursements of medical, dental and vision expenditures for employees and their enrolled dependents. Up to $3,000 for single employees with no dependents and $6,000 for employees with one or more dependents.

  • Life Insurance – City paid life insurance policy of $75,000
  • Disability Group Insurance – City paid short and long-term insurance
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment Coverage – City Paid

Tier 1 – 2.5% @ 55  for employees hired prior to 7/13/12 (Employee pays 8%)
Tier 2 – 2.0% @ 60 for CalPERS “Classic” members hired after 7/14/12 (Employee pays 7%)
Tier 3 – 2.0% @ 62 for new CalPERS members (Employee pays 6.25%)
*The City does not participate in Social Security.

  • Voluntary Deferred Compensation Program/$125 per pay period City match
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program
  • Employee Assistance Program (“EAP”) – City Paid
  • Student Loan Debt Assistance
  • Health & Wellness Reimbursement

The City adopted a 9/80 work schedule whereby certain employees, depending upon the duties of the job and the needs of the department, may be allowed to work 80 hours within 9 days earning one day off. For example, an employee may work 9 hours per day Monday through Thursday, 8 hours on a Friday; earning alternating Fridays off. Department Directors will advise new hires of the availability of a 9/80 schedule for each position and, if applicable, which day of the week will be the earned day off. The City retains the exclusive right to terminate any 9/80 work schedule with 30 days written notice to the affected employees.

Employees receive twelve (12) paid City holidays plus two (2) paid floating holidays annually

Minimum two weeks annual paid vacation with higher increments at 2, 6 and 12 years

12 days per year

Three days for death of immediate family members

Part-Time Employee Benefits

  • Sick time is provided per the California Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Family Act of 2014
  • Optional Deferred Compensation/457 Retirement Plan with Nationwide is available to part-time employees
