City Council

City Council2023-05-16T12:40:13-07:00

The Rancho Mirage City Council is responsible for establishing policy direction for City staff to ensure services to taxpaying residents and businesses of the community are provided in a cost-effective and professional manner. The City Council is mandated to provide an environment that stimulates participation in the governing processes and to conduct the affairs of the City openly and responsively.

Working Together

It is particularly important for the Council to have citizen input. One way to assure citizen input is through the formation of commissions, made up of appointed citizen advisors, that will study specific issues and provide advice and recommendations to the City Council.  The City Council has the ultimate political and legal responsibility for the conduct of local government and the welfare of the entire community. The City Council must balance the needs of the entire community when making decisions, and citizen advisors play an important role in assisting the City Council to fulfill its obligations to our citizens.

City Council Meetings

Regular meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.  Meetings are taped and shown daily on Time Warner – RMTV, Channel 17, during the week following each meeting on at 3:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.  City Council meetings are also available on DVD for patron checkout at the Rancho Mirage Public Library.  The meeting agenda is posted pursuant to State law at least 72 hours before any meeting. The purpose of the agenda is to inform the public in advance of the items under consideration. Material related to each agenda is compiled into an agenda packet. The agenda packet is available for public review at City Hall, the City Library and this website.

Public Comment

Citizen participation is invited at all Council meetings. To ensure that all Rancho Mirage residents have an opportunity to be heard before the City Council, a Public Comment period is included on every agenda. Comments on matters not on the agenda will be heard during the Public Comment period. Citizens are invited to speak on any item listed on the agenda prior to City Council vote. To speak to a matter on the agenda during the Public Comment period complete the Request to Speak form (available in the lobby of the Council Chamber) and present it to the City Clerk. When your name is called, come to the podium and be recognized. The policy of the City Council is that individual presentations not exceed three minutes. Please be aware that pursuant to provisions of the Brown Act, the City Council is prohibited from taking action on any issue not listed on the Agenda unless there is an emergency requiring Council action or an urgent need for Council action arises after the agenda is published, threatening health, safety or welfare of the community. Matters presented under Public Comment period may be considered at a future meeting or referred to staff for review.
