0040 Hours – Possession of a Stolen Vehicle/ Weapon/ Narcotics Arrest: Deputy Day conducted a vehicle stop at Bob Hope Drive and Varner Road. The vehicle was reported as stolen, and the three occupants were detained without incident. Ammunition was located inside. Deputy Koehler authored a search warrant for the occupant’s hotel room at an area motel. Patrol personnel, along with Deputy Day, subsequently served the warrant and located a loaded handgun, multiple loaded magazines, heroin, and illegal drugs. 1144 hours – Vehicle Pursuit / DUI / Felony Warrant Arrest: Sergeant Morton of the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team observed a red Hyundai Sonata exhibiting DUI driving actions and initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of a business in the 32-200 block of Bob Hope Drive.  The driver later identified Deborah Flanagan, 54 of Desert Hot Springs, yielded the Hyundai in the parking lot. Flanagan then backed out of the parking spot and fled at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit was initiated which ultimately ended in the northeast parking lot of another business, located in the 78-200 block of Varner Road, Palm Desert. The passenger, Simon Ortiz, 31, of Cathedral City, fled on foot. Deputy Broughton engaged in a foot pursuit and took Ortiz into custody without further incident. Flanagan was arrested for DUI, Felonious Evading, and for four outstanding arrest warrants. Ortiz was arrested for Resisting / Delaying a Peace Officer and his Domestic Violence warrant.
