1300 hours – Felony Resisting Arrest:  Rancho Mirage Police Officers responded to a trespass call at the Motel 6, located at 69570 Hwy 111, in the city of Rancho Mirage.  Officers learned, Loretta Ann Fulton, age 63 of Cathedral City, had been asked to leave the hotel and refused.  Officers contacted Fulton in the hotel room.  Fulton armed herself with metal scissors and refused to leave the room.  A use of force occurred, and Fulton was taken into custody.  Fulton was taken to EMC where she was cleared for booking.  She was booked at Indio jail for violation of the following sections:  69PC, 417 PC, and 602 PC. 1500 hours – Assault With a Deadly Weapon Arrest:  Office Staff was contacted by the victim who stated she had additional information regarding her case.  The case originated on Monday, February 25, 2019 when she reported her son, Darick Schaaf, age 26 of Rancho Mirage, had been abusing her, including burning her.  Officers contacted the victim and conducted additional investigation.  Schaaf was arrested with the assistance from the K-9 Team and SET Teams at his residence for assault with a deadly weapon and several other felonies.  He was later booked into Riverside County Jail.  File #S190560012

2034 hours – D.U.I. Traffic Collision: – Officers responded to The Colony, International Blvd and Gerald Ford Drive, in the city of Rancho Mirage, regarding a vehicle colliding with a palm tree.  Upon arrival, the Officers contacted the driver, Eugene Zak, 73 years, of Rancho Mirage.  Zak showed obvious signs of being under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested.  Zak was transported to EMC where he submitted to a blood test and received an OK to book prior to being transported to the Indio Jail.  File #S190600056

0305 hours – Possession of Stolen Property / Possession of Methamphetamine Arrest:  Rancho Mirage Police Officers were patrolling through the parking lots of the Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage, when he received an ALPR hit on and unoccupied vehicle. The Officer worked with security and was able to contact David Henderson, 40 years of DHS, inside the Casino.  Henderson was seen on video walking away from the stolen vehicle prior to officer’s arrival.   Henderson was arrested and booked into Banning Jail for 496d(a) PC and 11377(a)HS.  File #S190620004

2210 hours – Public Intoxication/ Trespassing Arrest: Officers were dispatched to Agua Caliente Casino regarding a trespass. The Officer contacted Wendy Halaby, 36 years of Canyon Country, who was inebriated to the point of not being able to care for herself. Halaby had been served a trespass notice in the past. She was placed under arrest and transported to the county jail in Indio where she was booked. File #S190620040

Significant Activity:

1225 hours – Suspicious Death: Rancho Mirage Officers responded to the Motel 6, located at 69570 Hwy 111, Rancho Mirage, reference a check the welfare.  Motel staff was concerned about the customer in room #110, who was supposed to have checked out.  They opened the door and found the security lock in place, and intense heat coming from within the room.  Officers, along with motel staff, used a lock release device to open the door.  Upon entering, they found a white male adult, deceased in the bathtub. His head was not submerged in the water, but it was apparent he was deceased and sitting in the tub for several hours.  He was last seen alive by motel staff on 3/3/19 in the afternoon.  Investigations was notified and responded, along with forensics. 1655 hours – Officer Involved Shooting: Officers from the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to Eisenhower Medical Center’s Orthopedic building regarding a subject who had shot at the building. Officers arrived and contacted the subject who was uncooperative. An officer involved shooting ensued and deputies attempted life saving measures on the suspect, prior to his death.   A handgun was located at the scene. Central Homicide Investigators arrived and assumed the investigation. File #S190630052

1547 Hours – Possession of Stolen Property / Parole Violation Arrest: Between 02/22/19 and 02/23/19, a grand theft occurred from an unlocked vehicle located within the Cielo Community, in the city of Rancho Mirage.  On 02/27/19, members from the Rancho Mirage Burglary Suppression Unit assumed the investigation and identified Thomas Bradford, age 39 from Thousand Palms as a suspect. During the investigation, some of the stolen property was recovered from a local business in Palm Desert. On 03/5/19, BSU, with the assistance from Rancho Mirage SET, served a residential search warrant at Bradford’s residence located within the 32400 block of Bowie Circle, in Thousand Palms. Additional stolen property from the grand theft was located and recovered. Thomas was arrested for 3056 PC (Parole Violation) and booked into the Riverside County Jail, in Indio. An additional charge for possession of stolen property will be added. File #S190540021

1730 Hours – Drug Paraphernalia Warrant Arrest: – Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle at Keenan Dr. and Kempton Ave, in the city of Rancho Mirage. James Throckmorton, 39 years of Desert Hot Springs, was arrested for a drug paraphernalia warrant. He was issued a citation and released at the scene.  File #S190650044

1100 hours – Felony Warrant Arrest: Officers from the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team (SET) contacted Bo Hopkins, age 23 of Desert Hot Springs, during a pedestrian check on Ramon Road just west of Varner Road.  Hopkins had a no bail assault with a deadly weapon warrant.  He was arrested and booked at the Riverside County Jail, in Banning.  File #S190660026

0950 hours – Criminal Threats Arrest: Rancho Mirage High School Resource Officer was notified by school security of an irate student, Christopher Deleon, 18 years of Thousand Palms, threatening school staff.  Officer Alvarez located Deleon in the common area of the school campus arguing with security and threatening school administrators.  Deleon began to leave the campus when he focused on the SRO.  Deleon told the SRO he was going to take his gun and kill him with it and began walking towards him.  School security was able to detain Deleon after a short scuffle where they sprayed Deleon with pepper spray.  Officers arrested Deleon for criminal threats and threatening school officials.  File #S190670017

0401 hours- Domestic Violence / Battery Arrest:  Officers responded to the 170 block of Kavenish Drive in Rancho Mirage regarding a battery investigation.  The victim stated his husband, Patrick Welch, 56 of Rancho Mirage, slapped him across the face.  Welch was arrested for 243e(1)pc and booked into the county jail in Indio.  File #S190680009

0700 hours – Vehicle burglaries:  Officer Karina Castro responded to the Hilton Garden Inn located at 71700 Hwy 111 in Rancho Mirage for a vehicle burglary.  She contacted the victim who stated while staying at the hotel the windows in his Lexus were smashed.  At 0951 hours, she was contacted by a second victim.  The second victim’s vehicle windows were also smashed.  The incidents occurred between 0230 hours, and 0530 hours.  Items stolen included a Masamoto knife set (value $1000.000) and a black Swiss Army backpack containing all the identifying information for Chad Jay Cohen.  File #’s S190680013 & S190680019

2126 hours – D.U.I. Arrest: Rancho Mirage D.U.I. Enforcement Officer was dispatched to a reckless driver on Da Vall Drive x Gerald Ford. Officers located the vehicle, and stopped it on Date Palm x Gerald Ford, Cathedral City.  During the stop, Officers noticed the driver of the vehicle, Tamela Olechno, 54 of DHS, showed signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment. Officers arrested Olechno for 23152 (a) and (b) CVC. Olechno provided a breath sample and her BAC was .19%. Olechno was booked into the Indio jail. File #S190680042

0508 hours – Trespass / Possession of a Controlled Substance Arrest: Officers responded to the Agua Caliente Casino located at 32250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage regarding a trespasser.  Upon arrival, Officers contacted Tiontae Lucas, 26 out of Palm Springs.   Lucas was in possession of drug paraphernalia and 3.2 grams of methamphetamine. Lucas was cite released for 602.1 PC, 11377(a) HS and 11364 (a) HS.  File #S190710004 

2151 hours – DUI / Traffic Collision:  Officers responded to Frank Sinatra and Hwy 111 in Rancho Mirage reference a two-vehicle traffic collision.  Tyler Hadden was seen running from the scene and was located in the immediate area.  Hadden showed objective signs of being under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest for D.U.I.  The other party involved only had complaint of pain and Hadden was transported to EMC Hospital as a precaution.  Hadden refused all test and a McNeely warrant was issued for his blood. Once medically cleared, Hadden was booked into the county jail in Indio for 23152(a) (b) VC. File #S190710027

0050 hours – DUI Arrest: D.U.I. Enforcement Officer observed a silver pickup truck make a left turn out of the south parking lot of Aqua Caliente Casino against a no left turn sign, in violation of 21461(a) CVC. Officer Wilhite conducted a traffic stop on Bob Hope Drive, south of Dinah Shore Drive in the city of Rancho Mirage.  Officer Wilhite contacted the driver of the vehicle, Roman Hernandez 41, of Palm Desert. Hernandez showed signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. Hernandez refused to complete a chemical test and a McNeely warrant was obtained. Hernandez was transported and booked into County Jail in Indio.  File #S190730003

1915 hours – Commercial Burglary and Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest: Officers responded to Home Depot located 34429 Monterey Ave., Rancho Mirage, regarding a theft in progress. The reporting party stated a white male adult had exited the store with a pressure washer and when confronted he fled on foot northbound through the parking lot. The suspect vehicle was located in an adjacent business parking lot. Belinda Payson, 54 years of Yucaipa, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for misallocation of found property. As Payson was being transported to the county jail in Indio for her misdemeanor warrants, Deputies located the male suspect, Kelly Moffett, 52 years of Yucaipa, at the intersection of Varner Rd. and Monterey Ave. Moffett was detained and positively identified as the suspect in the theft. 0123 hours – Possession of a Controlled Substance Arrest: Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop for expired registration at Bob Hope Dr. north of Dinah Shore Dr., Rancho Mirage. Officers contacted Albert Rios, 41 years of Indio. Rios had a suspended driver’s license. He was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended driver’s license. An inventory search of the vehicle prior to being towed was conducted, which yielded 3.5 grams of suspected methamphetamines and three glass smoking pipes with drug residue. 0313 hours – Parole Hold / Possession of Methamphetamine & Heroin Arrest:  Officers conducted a vehicle check in the parking lot of the Atrium located at 69930 Hwy 111, in the city of Rancho Mirage.  The occupant, Johnny Sauceda, 54 years of Coachella was contacted and further investigation revealed there to be a 3056 pc – parole hold.  Sauceda was also in possession of 1.5 grams of Methamphetamine and 2.8 grams of Heroin.  He was booked into the county jail in Indio. 0500 hours –  Felony Warrant & Possession of Methamphetamine Arrest:  Officers conducted a vehicle check on a suspicious vehicle in the area of John L Sinn Road and Palm Crest Drive, in the city of Rancho Mirage.  The driver, Serena Severson, 21 years of 1000 palms was contacted and was arrested for being in possession of 1.25 grams of methamphetamine.  The passenger, Christopher Alcala, 29 year of Palm Springs, was arrested for a stolen vehicle felony warrant.  A black semi-auto style handgun replica (B.B Gun) and black gloves were located near the feet of Alcala inside the vehicle.  Both were booked into the county jail in Indio. 2048 hours – Suicide: Officers responded to an alarm call at 72027 Desert Dr. (Dental Office), Rancho Mirage, regarding an alarm. Upon arrival, Officers contacted the responsible in front of the building who stated the doors were unlocked. Officers proceeded to search the interior when he located a 69-year-old white male adult sitting on one of the dental chairs with a gunshot wound to his head, gun in his lap and with tape over his mouth and nose. The subject had been terminated from the dental office six months prior, but still had the keys to the building. Investigations was called out and determined the subject had committed suicide. 1715 hours – Grand Theft and Elder Abuse:  Deputies investigated a grand theft of jewelry, worth about $70,000, from a residence in Rancho Mirage, where the victim was an elder dependent adult that suffered from dementia. Members from the Burglary Suppression Unit (BSU) assumed the investigation and developed leads that identified Megan Schmidt, 46 years, from Cathedral City who previously worked for the victim as a caregiver. BSU, along with deputies assigned to Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team (SET), served a residential search warrant at the 35000 block of Calle Solana in Cathedral City. BSU members located evidence inside the residence related to the theft. Schmidt was arrested for 487 PC & 368(e) PC and was booked into county jail in Indio. File # S190450029.

0300 hours – DUI Traffic Collision/Major Injury Arrest: Officers responded to a major traffic collision near Paxton Road and Hwy 111 in Rancho Mirage.  The driver, Ranjeet Minocha, 32 of Palm Desert was trapped inside the vehicle and admitted to consuming alcohol & driving over 100 MPH.  Due to his injuries, he was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. Officers will file out of custody due to his injuries.  Property Damage was to a brick wall / flower bed & Landscaping belonging to the Thunderbird Cove in Rancho Mirage.  City Street Division responded to clean up all of the debris.  Hwy 111 – S/B lanes were closed from 0300 hours to approximately 0630 hours.  File #S190880010
