0030 Hours –Arrest Warrant Service/Providing False Information Arrest – Deputy Nelson conducted a vehicle stop on Bob Hope Drive and Casino Drive in Rancho Mirage.  The driver, Eric Austrum, 31 of Palm Desert, provided a false name.  Deputy Nelson confirmed his identity through law enforcement databases.  Austrum was arrested for 2 felony warrants and 1 misdemeanor warrant.  He was booked into John Benoit Detention Center. 1553 Hours–Burglary/Conspiracy Arrest – Members of Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team conducted follow- up investigation to a burglary that occurred on October 25, 2022, in Rancho Mirage. Members arrested Alexis Ramirez, age 21 of Cathedral City, and Danny Gilman, age 20 of Cathedral City, for burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime. Both suspects were booked into John Benoit Detention Center. Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 111 and East Veldt. Deputy Davidson arrested Andrew Lopez, 40 of Long Beach, for Driving Under the Influence. 1116 hours – Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Violation of Probation, and Arrest Warrant Service– Members from Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team conducted a pedestrian check at Bob Hope and Ramon Road in Rancho Mirage. Members arrested Samuel Bardling; 52 years old of Thousand Palms. Bardling was on active felony probation for Burglary. Members arrested Bardling for narcotics related charges and violation of probation. Bardling was booked into John Benoit Detention Center. Files #S223070022/ S223070023.

1536 Hours – Arrest Warrant Service – Deputy Thomas conducted a traffic stop on Bob Hope Dr.  and Hospital Dr. Thomas contacted and arrested Jose Huerta, 57 years old of Thermal, who had an outstanding felony US Marshals warrant. Huerta will be booked into John Benoit Detention Center. The United States Marshals will respond to take possession of Huerta.  File #S223070033.

Edgar Martinez Ramirez, age 34 of Palm Springs, was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Martinez Ramirez was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. He contacted the driver, Ricardo Encizo, 25-year-old resident of Indio, who was suspected of driving under the influence. Deputy Kemper arrived at the scene and conducted a Driving Under the Influence investigation. Deputy Kemper determined Encizo was under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest. 0238 Hours – Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Domestic Battery Arrest- Deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at the 41500 block of Rancho Manana Lane, Rancho Mirage.  Deputies arrived and located a male victim with a cut on his right arm.  The suspect was the victim’s girlfriend, Amanda Pearce, a 42-year-old resident of Palm Springs, who fled before deputies arrived. Deputies later located Pearce and she was arrested without incident. Pearce was booked at John Benoit Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. File #S223100039.

0518 hours – Felony Vandalism and Weapons Arrest- Deputy Nelson responded to the 36100 of Bob Hope Drive regarding shots being fired at windows of a business. Deputy Nelson observed a vehicle fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. Deputy Nelson stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, Chance Sawyer, 24-years-old, of Palm Desert, and passenger, Brett Wellard, 33 years old, of Palm Desert. Wellard was determined to have a misdemeanor warrant for vandalism. During the investigation, Deputy Nelson located an illegal firearm and 50 steel 3/8″ hunting balls on Sawyer’s person. During a search of the vehicle, about 50 more steel hunting balls and a black and red sling shot were located under the driver’s seat. Both Sawyer and Wellard admitted to using the slingshot to vandalize several businesses in the cities of Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert. Sawyer admitted to vandalizing businesses over a 6-week period.
