Domestic Water Turf Rebate Program

The City of Rancho Mirage continues to save water by partnering with the Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) to offer rebates to our residents, HOAs, and commercial centers looking to convert from turf to desertscape or artificial grass.

CVWD rebate: $3.00/sq.ft. for residential, commercial & HOA

City of Rancho Mirage rebate:  $3.00/sq.ft for residential and $1.00/sq.ft for commercial & HOA

Applying is simple: The application process is handled through CVWD. At the completion of an approved project, CVWD will provide one rebate check for the full amount.

In addition to this rebate, HOA/Commercial projects that are required by the City to use a landscape architect may be eligible for reimbursement of these costs from the City, for up to an additional $6,000.

The Rancho Mirage Turf Rebate Program became effective upon approval by the City Council on July 7, 2022, with an initial allocation of $500,000.  Due to the popularity of this program, the City Council approved additional allocations for a total of $2,800,000, which according to CVWD will save over 70,000,000 gallons of water per year.

The purpose of this program is to further enhance water conservation efforts after the recent State ban on the watering of decorative grass and its call to reduce outdoor water usage. This program was not intended to retroactively provide rebates. All who have current turf conversion projects are encouraged to apply for this new program through CVWD.

All projects require pre-approval before starting a turf conversion project or removal of any grass.

Well Water Turf Rebate Program

The City of Rancho Mirage City Council approved a supplemental turf rebate for HOAs on well water with grass projects outside perimeter walls that abuts city as these are currently ineligible for the CVWD partnership program. The goal of this program is to reduce irrigation run off into storm drains, which creates ideal conditions for mosquito breeding, and to save even more water by encouraging the reduction of non-functional turf.

City of Rancho Mirage rebate:  $1.00/sq.ft. for commercial & HOA.

In addition, projects that require the use of a landscape architect may be eligible for reimbursement of these costs from the City up to an additional $6,000.

All projects require pre-approval before starting a turf conversion project or removal of any grass.
