Recycling Right Sweepstakes

All Rancho Mirage households are eligible to enter the Rancho Mirage Recycling Right Sweepstakes for a chance to win the Recycling All-Star Basket (valued at $200). Take and share a picture of your new organic’s kitchen pail in action, submit your name, service address and phone number by 11:59 P.M. on December 31, 2022, to be entered for a chance to win.

Entry Details:

  1. Take and share a picture of your new organics kitchen pail.
  2. Provide your name, service address and phone number to recycling@ranchomirageca.gov OR fill out and bring or mail the entry to the City of Rancho Mirage, Attn: Recycling at 69-825 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage, California, 92270.
  3. The City of Rancho Mirage will choose a winner at random at the City’s January 19, 2023 Council Meeting.


Limited to one entry per household. Odds of winning the sweepstakes are approximately 1/9000, odds will vary depending on number of eligible entries submitted. Sweepstakes official rules may be found below.

Official Sweepstakes Rules

  1. The Rancho Mirage Recycling Right Sweepstakes (the “Sweepstakes”) is being conducted by the City of Rancho Mirage (the “City”). The Sweepstakes commences at 12:00 A.M. (PST) on November 1, 2022, and continues until 11:59 p.m. (PST) on December 31, 2022 (the “Submission Period”) and is offered only to City Residents (“Residents”) who take a picture of Resident’s new organics kitchen pail provided by Burrtec, and provide name, service address and phone number to recycling@ranchomirageca.gov OR duly fill out and mail the bottom of the entry issued to residents on delivery of new carts (each an “Entrant”) to City of Rancho Mirage, Attn: Recycling, 69-825 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage, California 92270, prior to expiration of Submission Period. Entry limited to one Entry per household. The winner shall be selected by City at random during the January 19, 2023, City Council Meeting. The winner (“Winner”) shall receive a Recycling All-Star Basket, valued at approximately Two Hundred Dollars ($200).  City will announce the Winner to the public, at City’s sole and absolute discretion, through any reasonable means.
  3. A purchase or payment will not increase chances of winning. Chance of winning is approximately 1/9000.  Entrants may elect to remove themselves from the Sweepstakes by notifying City at any time prior to receiving the Prize.
  4. Eligible entrants are limited to Residents. The number of entrants and entries is dependent upon the number of Residents which submit Entries. In order to enter the Sweepstakes, Residents must (1) take a picture of Resident’s new organics kitchen pail provided by Burrtec, and (2) provide name, service address and phone number to recycling@ranchomirageca.gov OR duly fill out and mail the bottom of the entry issued to residents on delivery of new carts during the Submission Period. Only one (1) Winner will be selected for qualified entrants.
  5. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older at time of entry to be eligible.
  6. The Sweepstakes is open to all U.S. and Canadian residents at least 18 years of age, subject to the restrictions contained in these Official Sweepstakes Rules (“Rules”), except it is not open to residents of the Province of Quebec. If a person from Canada is selected as the potential winner, that person must first pass a skills test, in accordance with Canadian law, to be administered by the City before the Prize may be awarded to that person.
  7. The Sweepstakes is governed by the laws of California and the United States, excluding conflicts of laws principles, and is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. This Sweepstakes is void where prohibited by law and where it qualifies as an illegal lottery.
  8. One (1) winner from all eligible entrants will be selected at random at the end of the Submission Period, on January 19, 2023, at the City Council meeting. This date is subject to change at City’s sole and absolute discretion. The winner selection process is completely random.
  9. Prize. The Winner shall receive a Recycling All-Star Basket, which is valued at approximately Two Hundred Dollars ($200).
  10. Prize Restrictions: The City reserves the right to substitute the Prize, or any portion thereof, with a prize of equal or greater value. No credit or reimbursement will be provided if Prize is not taken. Other restrictions may apply. Must be 18 years of age or older to win and accept the package.
  11. Prize must be accepted as awarded; no substitutions. Prize is non-transferable and non-refundable and non-exchangeable. Prize is subject to the terms, conditions and restrictions described herein. No substitutions or cash redemption of Prize is permitted except that City retains the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.  Additional restrictions may apply.
  12. Claiming the Prize: To claim the Prize, winner must respond to notification from City of Winner announcement, which will be sent to contact information provided in the Entry, and Winner must contact Jessica Pulliam at recycling@ranchomirageca.gov in writing, or in person at City Hall, within seven (7) calendar days of City sending such notification.  Prize must be picked up by Winner no later than 15 calendar days, otherwise Prize may be forfeited. Prior to receiving the Prize, the winner must submit an executed Affidavit of Eligibility and Release of Liability, W-9, and advertising disclaimer to the City.  Forms and instructions for submittal will be provided by City upon notification of winning. Noncompliance within time periods referenced may result in disqualification (at City’s sole and absolute discretion), and an alternate winner may be selected if time permits.
  13. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries submitted during the Submission Period; approximately 1/9000.
  14. Entries limited to one per household.
  15. Alternate Method of Entry:  Entries must be made by in accordance with the methods described above and herein. There are no alternate methods of entry.
  16. Winner is solely responsible for payment of all federal, state and local taxes (including income and withholding taxes). Winner will receive an IRS 1099 form from City, for the total Actual Retail Value of Prize in the calendar year in which Winner was selected. City and all of its programs and all sponsors associated with the Sweepstakes reserve the right to require any forms for eligibility, release of liability, prize acceptance and/or tax purposes within two (2) days of notification. Noncompliance with this request may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. Participation in the Sweepstakes constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Rules.  The Sweepstakes entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Rules, which are final on all matters pertaining to the Sweepstakes.
  17. The City makes no warranty, guaranty or representation of any kind concerning the Prize. Except where prohibited by law, City disclaims any implied warranty, and is not liable for injury, loss, or damage of any kind resulting from the acceptance or use or misuse of the Prize, travel related thereto or from Entrants’ participation in this Sweepstakes.
  18. Advertising Disclaimer. Entrants consent to provide and allow the City and/or Burrtec to the use of the Winner’s proper name, city and state of domicile, and photo and/or likeness (including, without limitation aural and visual likeness) for purposes of advertising online and in print or any other media or trade in connection with the Sweepstakes, without further compensation. The City and Burrtec further reserve the right to use any and all information related to the Sweepstakes, including any information related to the Sweepstakes and obtained through the Sweepstakes, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.  Entrants understand and agree that by entering the Sweepstakes they disclose certain information to the City and/or Burrtec.
  19. By entering this Sweepstakes, entrants agree to be bound by these Rules, which are subject to change periodically at City’s sole and absolute discretion, and all decisions of the City are final.
  20. The eligibility of all potential Prize winners is subject to verification by the City.
  21. The City is not responsible for late, lost or misdirected e-mail or mail or any computer, online, telephone or technical malfunctions that may occur. If for any reason the Sweepstakes cannot be completed as planned, City reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Sweepstakes at any time for any reason.
  22. This Sweepstakes will run in accordance with these Rules, subject to amendment by City.
  23. By entering this Sweepstakes, all entrants agree to release any and all persons and/or entities from any and all liability resulting from participation in the Sweepstakes. The winner, by acceptance of the Prize, agrees to release al such entities each and all of their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors and advertising agencies from all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever resulting from or related to the Sweepstakes and receipt, ownership and use of the Prize, including without limitation any and all injuries, damages or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership or use of the Prize, including but not limited to, related travel.
  25. Entrants consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of California Courts (state or federal) in Riverside County for any causes or controversies arising out of the Sweepstakes. Winner waives any and all objections to jurisdiction and venue in these courts.  Entrants agree that any and all disputes, claims, causes of action or controversies arising out of or in connection with the Sweepstakes shall be initiated and conducted in the applicable court or forum in Riverside County, California.  In the event any action, suit or proceeding is brought for the enforcement of, or the declaration of any right or obligation pursuant to these Rules or the Sweepstakes, the prevailing party in such suit or proceeding shall be entitled to recover its costs and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, from the losing party, and any judgment or decree rendered in such a proceeding shall include an award thereof.
  26. Without limiting the generality of the forgoing, and unless expressly provided otherwise herein, Winner shall be liable to City for any obligations, duties, liabilities, or responsibilities of Winner and shall indemnify and hold City, its officers, officials, agents, employees and volunteers from any against any and all claims, demands, actions, losses, damage, injuries, and liability, direct or indirect (including any and all costs and expenses in connection therewith), arising out of this Sweepstakes.
