Senate Bill 1383 Information

Senate Bill 1383 was signed into law by Governor Brown in September 2016, this law requires a 75% statewide reduction in organic waste by 2025, this includes food waste, green waste, and items such as paper and wood wastes. The law sets regulatory authority to CalRecycle to achieve the organic waste disposal reduction targets and establishes an additional target that not less than 20 percent of currently disposed edible food is recovered for human consumption by 2025.

For our city, this requires actively developing new residential organic waste infrastructure and collection services and establishing recovery programs. To see more information on what’s coming visit our SB-1383 Residential page.
